Meet The Team

Emily Spence

Clinical Specialist Orthotist

Having graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics from The University of Strathclyde in 2013, Emily has gone on to become a highly experienced and well-respected orthotist within London and the South-East.

Emily started her career working within the NHS at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge before moving to London to work at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton and St George’s University Hospital as a Senior Orthotist and then laterally as the Assistant Clinical Lead Orthotist for the service.

More recently, Emily took up a post within Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust working alongside Chris Cody.

Emily has over ten years’ experience working within a variety of orthotics clinics and multidisciplinary clinics. She has taken a particular interest in the orthotic management of the diabetic foot and is an integral member of the innovative and reputable Diabetic Foot Clinic at King’s College Hospital, London. Emily is heavily engaged in education and in late 2024 co-presented alongside a panel of international experts in diabetic foot management in a conference titled: Diabetic Foot Offloading – New Approach Based on European Experience and seeking to educate the audience on the biomechanical principles underlying the most appropriate orthotic prescriptions in the management of the diabetic foot.

Emily has also taken on a complex clinic for individuals with weakness as a result of post poliomyelitis syndrome, formulating and designing high-end and innovative orthotic prescriptions and delivering exceptional patient outcomes.

Emily is passionate and determined when it comes to design and development within orthotics and will work closely with her patients to understand their goals and needs. As a result, Emily has been shortlisted for Guys and St Thomas’ Orthotist/Prosthetist of the year award for 2024.

Outside of her orthotics career, Emily continues to work on her professional development and recently completed a leadership and management apprenticeship, passing with distinction.
